New Friends

On a day out in the New Forest we had a look around a little village and came across an old man and a donkey in a side street. The look of sheer delight on the old man's face as he petted the donkey was a real joy. Don't ever feel you are too old to take pleasure in life and make new friends.

Trust

One of the hardest lessons to learn is trust. To believe you will be ok and all your needs will be met, that you don't have to constantly be in control.

Relax, be patient

After all the rushing and hurrying of my last post, I've named this sketch 'Relax, be patient, all good things come to those who wait,
But, who is waiting and who will be rewarded?

Time is Money

I spent an interesting couple of hours in the town centre people watching. All around me everyone was rushing to and fro, either shopping or working, all with serious, determined expressions on their faces. No one really seemed to be enjoying themselves, it was all busy, busy, business. Except, standing quietly and still in the midst of all this rush and seriousness was a man with a walking stick collecting for charity. He too watched all the bustle and hustle around him with an amused and interested expression.

A Traveller's Tale.

Passing on family stories from generation to generation keeps those who came before and are part of us alive.

Life is for....

Life is for....
Laughing, listening, learning, exploring, taking risks,
loving and sharing.

Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in another time.

Early Days

I've completed the second page of my sketchbook. I really need to allocate a bit more time to this or I won't finish before the deadline! I have been thinking about each new person's potential and how everyone likes to see themselves or other loved family members in a new baby and make predictions on who and what that baby will become as an adult. All filtered through their own likes and dislikes, fears and hopes absorbed from their own lifetime's experience and journey.

The Journey Begins

I've finally got started. Have designed the front cover of my sketchbook, found some great time and life quotes to drop in amongst my sketches and doodles and have been out and about taking sneaky photos of people doing their thing. Or in some cases, sitting and enjoying the sun, which is still a 'thing' and great to do.

My front cover.

My first page.

Who, What and Why?

My name is Lavender George and I am an artist living in Bournemouth, UK, and I decided to join in the Arthouse Co-op sketchbook project for 2012. You can find all the details on this project from the Arthouse site: http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject
I chose the title "Time Travellers" for my sketchbook. We are all time travellers, I'm a traveller from the 1960's, my parents were travellers from the 1930's and 40's and my children have been travelling since the 1980's. So, I shall be out and about in Bournemouth and Poole sketching the time travellers around me and studying how we are all spending the precious time that we have.
I shall post pictures of my sketches and descriptions of them and how I'm getting on with the project here until January, when the sketchbook has to be completed and returned.
I will also be making some of the sketches into paintings and these will be posted on my website: http://www.lavendergeorge.co.uk/
I hope you can join me on this journey.
My sketchbook is dedicated to Victor and Iris Kersey who reached the end of their journeys in 2008.
